Photogravure is an intaglio photo-mechanical printmaking process, dating back to the 1820s. It requires the etching of a photographic image on a plate, which is then inked by hand and pulled through an etching press to create the final image. Photopolymer gravure is a modern version of traditional photogravure, which avoids the use of ferric chloride in development.
